360 Oz – Kununurra (Mar’12)

It appears we started our trip too early, or the rains continued for longer.  Whichever is the case, the result is that the Kimberley is “Closed”.  The opening date seems to be the 1’st of April but the phrase “weather permitting” is used an awful lot…

This means that we will be backtracking after visiting northern Queensland and not return via the southern route. 360 Oz is going become 2x 180 Oz.

Kununurra is a beautiful spot. Water everywhere and it is lush and green.  We spent the day exploring waterfalls, drove a section of the Gibbs River Rd and visited Wyndham, the northernmost settlement in WA.  Saw gazillions of magnificent boab trees (eat you heart out Derby).

On the way here we stopped at Fitzroy’s Crossing where we took a hour long hike up Geikie Gorge in 36 degC…madness.
